Allied Schools is an education provider for students wanting to pursue career emphasized studies in the real estate, medical, and business fields. One of the medical courses available with Allied Schools is the pharmacy technician program. Students of the program are trained with the skills needed to work directly as an assistant to a licensed pharmacist in retail, hospital, and medical or health care pharmacy setting. The pharmacy technician emphasizes areas of study including medication counting, dosage calculation, prescription label preparation, insurance form preparation, patient file maintenance, and prescription inventory and distribution. Students are also prepared with knowledge of how to manage a back office including the importance of telephone skills, customer service, cash register operation, and effective patient communication.
The pharmacy technician program at Allied requires sixty hours of study as well as the successful completion of the pharmacy calculations course. This course is compiled of three units emphasizing basic arithmetic to find the solutions to pharmaceutical problems, the understanding of pharmaceutical problem solving, and the ability to perform pharmaceutical calculations that are used in pharmacy. A total of sixty required hours of study in pharmacy calculations is required for graduation.
The overall pharmacy technician program, aside from the pharmacy calculations course, requires students to complete eight lessons including the fundamentals of pharmacy and health care, calculations, pharmaceutical terminology and prescription reading, compounding, factors that affect drug activity, inventory management, and financial issues. Students are required to pass all examinations, quizzes, online coursework, and assignments with an average score of 70% or better to ensure successful graduation of the pharmacy tech program.
