American Career College

The American Career College has been in operation since 1978 serving students with an interest in the medical and health care field. Available programs at the college include dental assisting, optical dispensing, surgical technology, massage therapy, vocational nursing, medical assistant, respiratory therapist, health claims examiner, and pharmacy technician. The school is accredited by the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools and the pharmacy tech training programs are accredited by the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists.

The pharmacy program at American Career College is comprised of seven modules that take eight months to complete. The class modules include pharmacy law, chemistry, pharmacology, drug distribution, retail pharmacy, IV admixture procedures, and an externship. Entrance qualifications are required to enter the pharmacy program and include examinations and assessments. Students must hold a high school diploma or its equivalency and score a 125 or better on the CPAT entrance exam. Admissions representatives are available to assist in exam preparations and the entrance requirements.

During the class modules students learn the necessary skills to operate as a successful pharmacy technician. Students become skilled in the area of labeling and filling prescriptions, preparing IVs, inventory control and distribution, and medical terminology. Graduates of the program are prepared to gain employment in area hospitals, retail pharmacies, or become pharmacy clerks and assistants.

The American Career College emphasizes career placement and prepares its students accordingly. An on campus career services department is available to assist students and graduates with their interviewing skills, resume preparation, job application completion, networking, time management, employment leads, and career advising. Workshops are given to students who need guidance in specific areas of career services like professional attire, leadership, and effective communication. In relation to the campus career services department, an alumni services department is available to all graduates of American Career College.
