The Pharmacy Technician program is a diploma program consisting of a 15-month curriculum. The program focuses not just on giving students an education, but factoring in what current employers are looking for in a pharmacy technician. The main goal of the pharmacy technician program is to train the student where they are qualified to become an entry-level pharmacy technician upon graduation. Upon graduation students are prepared to take the national pharmacy technician certification exam.
Students learn skills such as measuring, mixing, counting, and labeling prescription medications, receiving prescriptions from medical doctors, completing medical records for clients, billing insurance companies, ordering inventory, and providing customer service. Most of the work is done under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
