National American University Campus was founded in 1941 under the name National School of Business. The school initially provided secretarial and accounting classes, and was located in Rapid City, South Dakota. Today National American University offers several programs in a wide variety of fields such as accounting, general education studies, information technology, paralegal, medical assistant, medical administrative assistant, business management, business administration, massage, athletic training, health care management, nursing, organizational leadership, and veterinary technology. NAU has expanded and currently has campus locations in Colorado, New Mexico, Missouri, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

National American University is fully accredited by the Higher learning Commission and the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NAU is authorized to administer certificates, associate of applied science degrees, associate of arts and science degrees, bachelor's degrees, and master's degrees. Each specific program is also accredited by national and regional accreditation agencies.
The Pharmacy program is an associate degree program and can be completed in approximately two years of full time study. Upon graduation students receive an associate of applied science in pharmacy technician and are qualified to sit for the national certification exam to become a certified pharmacy technician. During the program students are taught the fundamental skills, knowledge, and best practices of the pharmacy technician career. Students learn specific tasks such as measuring IV mixtures, understanding the dangers of drug interactions, aseptic techniques, hyperalimentation fluids, and pharmacy laws and regulations. The clinical experience portion of the program involves students learning pharmacy technician skills in real-world settings through strategic partnerships with local retail pharmacies, hospital pharmacies, and home care pharmacies.
According to the National Bureau of Labor statistics Pharmacy careers are expected to grow at a faster rate than most careers. As the baby boom population enters into retirement and their medical needs increase, the demand for well-trained pharmacy technicians will also rise.
