Northwestern Business College was founded in 1902 by J.F. Fish and served Chicago area residents by providing business training programs. Today Northwestern Business College serves over 2,000 Chicago area students on three separate campuses. The three campus locations include Jefferson Park, Bridgeview, and Naperville. Northwestern College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. NBC is fully authorized to offer associate in applied science degrees and certificates in Administrative Assisting, Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Executive Accounting, Health Information Technology, Human Resources, Information Management Systems, Massage Therapy, Medical Assisting, Pharmacy Technician, Paralegal, and Radiologic Technology.

One of the many medical options Northwestern Business College offers is their Pharmacy Technician program. Students who graduate from this program will learn skills such as preparing prescribed medication for patients, pouring, weighing, measuring, and mixing prescription and non-prescription drugs, preparing insurance forms, stocking and ordering medical supplies, following pharmacy and medical privacy and ethical guidelines, and understanding common drug interactions.
Admissions requirements to the pharmacy technician certificate program include a high school diploma or a General Education Development (GED) certificate. Students are also required to have an interview with an admissions representative and complete the college's assessment test. The Pharmacy Technician certificate is a total of 28 credits and includes the following courses:

- Pharmacology for Pharmacy Technicians
- Calculations for Pharmacy Technicians

Also during the program students receive counseling in writing effective resumes, conducting engaging job interviews, writing winning cover letters, and how to network with industry professionals. Career staff members also assist students with applying to positions and how to search for jobs.
