Pennsylvania Institute of Technology was founded in 1953 by Walter Garrison. PIT is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The Middle States Commission is recognized as a national accreditation agency by United States Secretary of Education and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Pennsylvania Institute of Technology is licensed as a private not-for-profit 501c(3) College and is approved to grant two-year associate degrees and short-term certificates. PIT currently has locations in Media and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

PIT offers students programs in Allied Health Technology, Nursing, Business Administration technology, Information Technology, and Engineering Technology. The programs at PIT are designed to be completed in less than two years based upon full-time study. Programs are designed to teach job specific skills in a hands-on environment. The main goal of each program at Pennsylvania Institute of Technology is to make the student ready for entry level employment within their dedicated field of study.
The Pharmacy Technician program at PIT teaches students the skills required to gain an entry level position as a pharmacy technician within a variety of health care settings. Pharmacy techs work in places such as hospital pharmacies, retail pharmacies, long-term health care facilities, rehabilitation clinics, and elderly-care homes.
During the program students are taught the fundamentals of Pharmacology, basics in Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy and Physiology, and Medical Law and Ethics. Students learn how to properly mix and dispense prescription medication, calculate dosages, control inventory, bill insurance companies, complete medical claim forms, and work with customers. Upon completion of the program students are encouraged to sit for the national pharmacy technician certification exam.
All students at PIT receive a full menu of student services to assist them in completing their educational goals. All students are assigned an academic advisor to assist them in choosing appropriate courses and balancing their priorities. Students also receive career placement counseling to help them be effective interviewers, resume writes, and job search experts.
