South Texas Vocational Technical Institute offers twelve programs that include Auto Service Technician, Computer Accounting Specialist, HVAC, Combination Welding, Clinical Lab Technician, Dental Assisting, Medical Assistant, Medical Administrative Assistant, Nursing Assistant, Pharmacy Technician, and Massage Therapy. All programs at STVT are designed to be completed in a short amount of time in the most flexible way possible. Classes are offered at flexible times in order to enable students to go to school while maintaining other responsibilities such as work, family, and recreation.
The Pharmacy Technician program purposes to teach students the skills and knowledge that will assist them in obtaining work as an entry level pharmacy technician. Students learn how to measure and dispense medication, fill prescriptions, order medical supplies, sterilize equipment, and bill insurance companies. Much of the work is done under the direct supervision of a pharmacist. Courses taught include anatomy and physiology, pharmacology, pharmacy math, communications, writing, and bodily systems. The pharmacy program also has an externship component that provides students with the opportunity to build their pharmacy technician skills before entering the workforce. The pharmacy program at South Texas Vocational Technical Institute is accredited and upon completion of the program students are encouraged to sit for the national pharmacy technician certification exam.
